CUPE Local 30 Shop Stewards
Shop Stewards represent Local members on the job when they need union assistance. They are very familiar with the collective agreement(s) and have been trained by the union office to handle difficult labour relations issues with management.
Shop Stewards are responsible to ensure the effectiveness of the union agreement with management in their particular department or sub-department. He or she knows the personnel in the work area and keeps them informed on all matters relating to union business.
Shop Stewards are obligated to try to foresee situations that might result in a grievance and to correct any such situation whenever possible. Prior to the initiation of a grievance, stewards shall attempt to resolve the problem with the department concerned.
Shop Stewards attend all regular and special general membership meetings of the Local as well as regular, monthly Shop Steward meetings.
Shop Stewards meet at 4:30 p.m. on the 2nd Monday of every month at the CUPE Local 30 building at 10425 Princess Elizabeth Avenue in the Meeting Hall.
